I have worked on this project on-and-off for the past couple of years, connecting with some friends, and hearing them talk about why they do what they do. Some of the projects worked well, but others never really came together as I'd hoped. Recently it dawned on me that they might work better together in a single video piece combining their voices.
yakʔitʸutʸu means “Community” in Chumash, and each of the buildings in the new student housing complex is named for a historic nearby Chumash village. Working with some great people from Cal Poly, we interviewed Northern Chumash tribal members, as well as Cal Poly students, faculty, and administrators to tell the story of how the naming project came about. 2013 was a spectacular harvest for Pinot Noir in the Edna Valley. Kysni Winery is a family owned and operated vineyard and winery located five miles from the Pacific Ocean on California's Central Coast, near Pismo Beach. They produce their Estate Pinot Noir from the Stone Corral Vineyard. Co-owner and winemaker Don Othman discusses the challenges of producing fine wines from this delicate fruit.
